Ravensburger Puzzle Club - 1000 Piece Disney Pixar Montage Review

When I went to Christmas in July I was asked if I would like to join the Ravensburger Puzzle Club.  I had been a little envious of my friends that had been in the club for a few months so jumped at the chance.  At first I thought it would be just me and the Boys but when I mentioned it to the Hubby he was strangely excited.  We decided to make Tuesday night, Puzzle night and spend some quality time together away from the computers and the television.

Description: http://spudandspike.co.uk/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gif
The first puzzle that we received is the 1000 piece Disney Pixar Montage, showing 9 Disney Pixar films from their first which was Toy Story to one of their most recent which is Wall-E in 2008.  It must have been designed before Toy Story 3 or it was left off because there wasn’t enough space!

Our first challenge was the hide it from Spud.  Unfortunately he saw it and wanted it!  I managed to fob him off with a DVD of Toy Story 2 and tried to find a better hiding place.  Tuesday came around and I couldn’t wait to get started.

I did the usual and sorted out the edges and corners and we set to work putting them together to make the outline.  We then went through the other pieces and split them into the 9 different sections to try and make things a bit easier.  Whilst sorting I did get covered in quite a lot of blue flakes from the cardboard which were just excess as none of the pieces were damaged.

Ravensburger use a high quality cardboard for their pieces and you can really feel this when you are putting them together.  The pieces were sturdy and the attention to detail is amazing.  We found that even if two pieces look identical, i.e. both just plain red, they are completely different shapes so there is no room for you to even think it goes in the wrong place.

Ravensburger pieces have soft click technology which offers a 100% guarantee interlocking mechanism for a flawless fit between the pieces.  It also means that it has an extremely smooth finish when completed.

The Hubby and I had a lot of fun doing the Disney Pixar Montage and despite being 1000 pieces it only took us a few hours spaced over three evenings to do it. We caught the bug because that week every night was puzzle night rather than having will power and saving it until Tuesday!  We just have to invest in a Puzzle Store now because it’s currently at risk of being bashed up by living underneath our sofa!

Ravensburger Spiderman Jigsaw Puzzles

This set consists of 3 puzzles each with 49 pieces. It is suitable for 5 years plus and would be great for any Spider-man fans out there. Based on the 2012 "The Amazing Spider-man" film release the images used are great action shots.

The puzzle is a bit too complicated for my girls as they are not used to puzzles with this many pieces yet but it was quite funny watching Hubby do it as it took him ages. I dont think he was very good at jigsaws as a little boy.
I was happy to see that they had placed a pattern on the back of the puzzles so that you could easily differentiate between the pieces and hope that they continue to do this for all their multiple puzzle boxes.
As always with Ravensburger the pictures and the pieces are of a brilliant quality and even though this puzzle is for older children the pieces are still very robust.

Ravensburger The Amazing Spider-man Jigsaw Puzzle

Recently Ravensburger sent us our Puzzle of the month to review, usually the puzzle is aimed for Nathan or James but Callum had a lovely surprise when he saw that this months puzzle was in fact for him. We were sent The Amazing Spider-man jigsaw puzzles.

There are 3 puzzles in the box, each puzzle is made up of 49 pieces. When I first opened the box and saw a bag full of pieces I was slightly concerned as to how Callum would differentiate between the pieces needed for the 3 individual puzzles, especially as there is a lot of red and blue pieces for each of them. On closer inspection we saw that the puzzles were all marked differently on the backs so that you could see which piece belonged to which puzzle.

Callum said he enjoyed doing the puzzles and that they didn't take him to long to do although they did make him use his brain to figure out where the pieces went. The puzzles are suitable for children aged 5+. Nathan did try helping Callum at one point but got bored as he said there were too many pieces to put together.

We can't wait until next month so see what puzzle we will have to review.

Disney Pixar Montage

I loved the puzzle before I even started it as I am a huge fan of Pixar films and have copies of all of them.   After I had finished the puzzle, I watched Wall-E again!

A good puzzle to do as it was broken down into blocks for each film and there was a colour co-ordination with aspects of the picture, eg. the film strip for Ratatouille was blue to match the tablecloth.    Quite straightforward with good sorting possibilities.   I started off, as always, with the straight edges but also sorted for the film strips making up the blocks at the same time.

Well cut pieces that fit neatly together, and bright colouring, making it easy to sort into the sections for each film.   Especially Toy Story which was very obvious with Buzz and Woody’s costumes being so easily recognisable.   Very good reproduction of the characters and also useful having the name of the film and the year it came out, as this was another pointer for sorting.

A nice puzzle, and just about the right size at 1000 pieces.  I will be passing it on to a friend when she has finished the London buses one!

Ravensburger Puzzle Club review Disney Brave XXL100

Just one look at Juliette's face shows how pleased she was with this month's Ravensburger Puzzle Club offering. It features a picture taken from the latest Disney film currently showing in cinemas, Brave.

Juliette immediately started trying to put the edge pieces together, which was actually quite difficult because it has a frieze that has the same pattern all the way round.

It only has 100 XXL pieces though and the picture contains lots of details with faces and weapons and small amounts of grass and sky so in no time at all, she had managed to piece it all together without getting frustrated at all.

Juliette was very pleased with the made-up puzzle and I'm sure any Disney fan who has seen the film (or who wants to) would find it incredibly appealing.

I've reviewed so many Ravensburger puzzles that it goes without saying that the pieces are precisely cut, made with thick, high quality cardboard and slot together really well.

Disney Brave

As part of the Ravensburger Puzzle Club we were sent a 100 piece puzzle to complete in the theme of ‘Brave’, the new Disney film featuring Princess Merida. My 7 year old hasn’t yet seen the film, but has seen plenty of trailers so was excited to see this puzzle!
We started the puzzle in our usual plan, building the edge. This was easier than normal as it has a lovely celtic theme running around the side. Now normally we use the Puzzle Store for our puzzle building, but we moved house just a few weeks ago and it is still in storage  at the moment. So we used the good old fashioned carpet.
Princess Merida’s hair was easy to spot with the flowing auburn locks.
Then came the exciting job of filling in the jigsaw. At first glance it seemed really hard for Brooke who is 7, as some of the pieces are for the dress and look very similar in colour. But a closer look and finding different patterns it soon started to take shape..
Now I will admit, a flat floor is easier for puzzle building, but Ravensburger Puzzles have thick peices which are reinforced so they don’t bend and break easily. We found it perfectly simple to build on carpet.
Nearly oh so nearly there!
Ta-da! All complete! It took Brooke about half an hour to complete all alone and she loves the picture on the puzzle. This would make a great gift for a child who loves the film Brave.

Ravensburger Puzzle Club: BRAVE 100pce puzzle

The latest puzzle to be sent to us for the Ravensburger Puzzle Club was of the film Brave, a Disney Pixar film currently showing in cinemas.

The eldest two have been nagging me to take them to the cinema to see Brave since they first heard about it so having this puzzle arrive has stopped the nagging.....for now!

The puzzle has 100 good-sized high quality pieces and is aimed at 6 years+.

Girl and Middle loved doing this puzzle and were able to do the majority of it with minimal assistance. They just needed a little help when doing Princess Merida's cloak and dress as they're quite dark and similar but they enjoyed the challenge.

This was a big hit with both of them and they said they really liked the picture and the fact it had lots of characters in it and it will be one they make over and over again.

13 years of Disney Pixar in one puzzle

We have been jigsaw puzzling again and with the mixed weather Britain has been having recently it has kept us all entertained.

Ravensburger, Disney, pixar, puzzle, montage, 1000 piece, review, jigsaw

The Ravensburger Disney Pixar montage is made up of 1000 puzzle pieces that features all your favourites from the first Toy Story movie in 1995 to Wall-E in 2008 and covers a total of 9 movies.  Each of the nine movies in the montage shows the main characters and the date of release.  The  puzzle is bright and colourful and each of the pieces features the Ravensburger Soft Click technology that ensures a good fit together of each piece.

We started as always with the edges which were easy to locate and piece together.  As there were 2 Toy Story movies featured this soon made finding the next stage of the jigsaw slightly more difficult as you had to work out which of the 2 movies depicted the pieces fitted.  We decided to piece together the film names next and put them into place.

With film names in place the next stage was to sort the remaining puzzle piece into groups by judging which movie they came from.  The orange of Finding Nemo and green of A Bugs Life were fairly straight forward but the more subdued colours of Wall-E were not quite as easy.

The last part to be finished were the film strips running along the top and bottom of each of the 9 montages but we worked out which belonged to which using the picture from the front of the puzzle box.

We all thoroughly enjoyed this puzzle.  The picture was entertaining to make and as we all love Disney movies in our household we loved the design.  Once the puzzle had been made the children mixed it all up and started it again - prove that they liked it!

The Ravensburger Disney Pixar montage puzzle measures approximately 70cm x 50cm and is recommended on the Ravensburger website as age 10 years +.  A great jigsaw for Disney fans.

The Amazing Spider-man Puzzle from Ravensburger

We recently received the The Amazing Spider-man puzzle from Ravensburger to review as part of the Ravensburger Puzzle club. There are 3 puzzles in the box and they all have 49 pieces, children will love the funky Spider-man pictures on each puzzle. Little bird loves spiderman and was really excited when this arrived.

This puzzle is designed for children aged 5 years old + although I think younger children could do it ok. Little Bird is 4 years old and he coped really well with it. The puzzle is made of strong, sturdy card and the pieces fit together really well and do not lift up and pop out like some puzzles we have done in the past.

As there are 3 puzzles in this box Ravensburger have made it really easy for the children to find the pieces. On the underneath of all the pieces there are 3 different patterns on the puzzle pieces to help you group them up. Its a great idea and Little Bird seemed to enjoy putting all the pieces in the right piles, there are spots, lines and plain.

Little Bird really enjoyed doing this puzzle, it kept him amused for around an hour. I think these puzzles will be popular with Little Spider-man Fans. The three pictures on the puzzle are fantastic and easy do, Little Bird made me laugh half way through when he asked if he could dress up in his Spiderman outfit
.
In our opinion Ravensburger make the best puzzles, you can feel the quality of each puzzle, I will never go with another make.

You can buy this puzzle for around £4.99 but prices may vary depending on where you shop.
